Large Outside Fire Burns at Sims Metal in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. — Firefighters are currently battling a large outside fire at the Sims Metal facility located at 3220 Deepwater Terminal Road in Richmond.
Richmond Fire Department and EMS crews were dispatched to the scene and arrived to find an estimated 100-by-100-foot fire burning in the rear of the property. The blaze involves several vehicles and piles of plastic materials, creating heavy fire conditions and smoke in the area that may also be traveling to nearby counties.
Multiple ladder trucks have been positioned around the scene with aerial ladder pipes flowing large amounts of water as crews work to reach the seat of the fire and prevent the flames from spreading further through the scrapyard facility.
Due to firefighting operations, Deepwater Terminal Road has been shut down in both directions at the Sims Metal property. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
No injuries have been reported at this time. Crews remain on scene actively working to bring the fire under control.
