What are Squad second pieces for if they do not respond with the squad for a major matrix? Don’t think I’ve seen them respond as part of a hazmat matrix either

almost all squads are carrying 5 and 16 gallon drums with cell block inside for 1 or 2 batteries. There is a plan to get squads a-little more away from batteries so they can be more inservice for tech rescues. For tech rescue the 2nd squad company is to take the 2nd piece. It all depends if they were out already.

"Around 10:30 Monday morning the FDNY received calls for a person who fell down a hole. This prompted a major technical rescue. Over 100 FDNY members responded to a construction site at 605 West 30th Street in Manhattan. It is a location Rescue 1 had been drilling at just last week. The patient was transported in critical condition.
“We were walking on bedrock or granite, and the other half was two feet of mud that you would sink right up to your knees in. Accessing the worker was a little tricky. We resorted to using ropes, which seemed to be the most efficient way of getting him out of the hole,” said Rescue 1 Lieutenant John McCann “We made patient contact pretty early. It was about a 60-foot-deep excavation. The patient had a pretty severe head injury from another piece of machinery that clipped him, so my members came down, they packaged him up, along with a member from Squad 18. We packaged him up while the other outside members of my team went to the far side to rig off an excavator, which we used as a high point. We were able to hoist him out of the hole. It was all hands-on deck.”
