From the rant by sheppardhooks...QUOTE..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
units in the 49 Batt. were assigned to a UCT box on 86st and 24th ave in Queens at the same time for a report of smoke from a beauty school. E316 asked for a 10-7 stating that there is no such occupancy at that intersection. coincidence?

UNQUOTE.

First on scene only seems to take pictures of the firefighters these days, is there a photography website that takes more pictures of the incidents and the apparatus rather than just endless pages of firefighters?

I feel the same way! You can never find pictures of the rigs these days! I took some apparatus photos while I was at the 3rd alarm, you can check them out and other pictures I have taken at:    http://www.flickr.com/photos/27546399@N04/

Could have been me. Was wearing a Engine 8 Shirt and a Engine 207 Hat.  Good eyes!

Thats more like it! Many thanks Scott. Some great pictures. We need more like that please. :D

a firetruck looks like a firetruck,i dont wanna see 50 firetruck pics.showme pics of whats burning. im in a firehouse with firetrucks, dont care to see 100 pics of rigs and 1 pic of whats burning.

A while back, I asked Lou M. about his photos being mostly of people, and he told me that's what his PAYING CUSTOMERS wanted.  So, if you want more pictures of rigs & fires, START BUYING PICTURES YOU LIKE from him.  After all, he's not in the business of keeping us buffs happy . . . he's in it for the bucks.

I received the following PM from Lou Minutoli:

"My guys were really disappointed with your comments that FirstOnScene is "in it for the bucks".
The website is an enterprise and makes money to pay our photographers for their time and gas....things most people take for granted. Even though we are very successful, we hardly generate a lot of bucks.
All six of our guys take pride in the fact that we provide photos that someday people will look back on.
As far as the photos go, you are correct in stating that this is what our customer want.
No one has ever written to us wanting more photos of the rigs.

Thanks

Lou"

Lou, I'm sorry if I offended either you or any of your guys.  I never meant to insinuate that any of you were trying to get rich with your site, and I certainly think it only right that you get at least some compensation for the equipment you buy and the time and money that you put into taking the photos and posting them.  I was simply trying to tell the other members of the board that if they wanted something from you other than what you have been providing, they start putting their money where their mouths are.  I hope you'll forgive me.

A good point well made, but I cant buy a picture that he does not take can I? :D

Also I never said I wanted him to change, if you look at my post I asked if there was another website that had pictures of the job and the apparatus.

I think we all have different needs. You never know what rigs are going to turn up, it may be different to what everyone expects. The pics may be at different angles than what anyone else has in their collection. That is half of the fun for people like me. I also want to see pictures of whats on fire, but if you look at the first on scene pictures, at recent multi alarm fires, there are very few pics of the fire building and many group pictures of the firefighters that were present. I am sure that is what the majority of FDNY folk want, which is why I asked if there was a website that catered for the actual fire and the apparatus.
