7/04/09 Northside 2nd Alarm Box 116

Seems like that would of been a great use of the Satellite Unit. When does the deluge on that bad boy get put to use? Do they have have another function other than there large deluge gun? Just curious, doesn't seem like its put into action to much. Thank you--RD

Advantage of the multi-versal is its transportability.  Satellite deck gun is fixed on the rig; it is used at major fires and often used to breach a wall.

Doesn't the satellite also carry large diameter hose?
The Satellites are basically LDH hose wagons with a large deck gun and they all carry a portable (mounted on a handtruck) manifold. The manifold is the most frequently used piece of equipment carried on the satellites.

Thank you to all,now have a better understanding. Sat 5 is the only one that goes on a All-Hands in SI. ANy particular reason or just to help increase its use and run numbers?

Satellites also carry extra cans of foam concentrate.
Oops! I left that out, thanks.  ;) BTW, Satellite 2 responds to All Hands on City Island and Satellite 6 responds to All Hands in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Newtown Creek areas.

Satellite 5 is located on SI at E159 0n Richmond Road.

rdm: I "think" Sat. 5 goes on the all hands due to the greater distances/response times between firehouses on SI.

I believe Sat. 6 is assigned on the initial alarm for fires inside the Navy Yard; I could be wrong.

You're right, Satellite 6 responds to All Hands in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Newtown Creek areas and Satellite 2 responds to All Hands on City Island .
