Tom "Captomo" as many know I was a U.S. Letter Carrier from 1970 - 1975, and even way back then, they were talking about doing away with Saturday delivery.
So, what you say is a plan that was discussed many years ago.
The wear and tear on vehicles (Nationwide) as well as the fuel savings is totally correct.

And the amount of junk mail I'm sure is out of control.
Sometimes I receive the same kind of junk mail every week trying to sell me something.

Yes the "FREE" ....i didn't think much of it at the time just did it if there was an envelope or two available.....looking back it was a nice acknowledgement for us....i never thought much when i scribbled some quick letters .....funny thing was the letters to my Family as well as those to the guys in 108 were kept by them & given back to me after i was back home ...i still have them....the Mail Service for the most part did a good job delivering "care" packages from Home...although more than once i did receive an empty crushed cardboard box with one end open......i don't think it was the Stateside Mail workers....more likely somewhere else in the chain maybe In Country ?
