Box 2642 transmitted for a structure fire at 464 68th Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues, Bay Ridge Section of Brooklyn.

Engines 241, 201    Ladders 109, 114  Bn. 40

Also receiving 460 68th Street; Engine 242 assigned.

Receiving 464 68th Street for a fire in apt. 2F on the second floor.

@2230: Bn. 40 reports fire on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 3 story brick 40 x 60, two lines being stretched, primary searches in progress, trucks opening up, fire is doubtful.
Exposures: 1- street, 2- similar attached, 3- yard, 4- similar attached.
On the 10-75: Engine 247, Ladder 149(fast truck), Squad 1, Rescue 5, Div. 8

@2231: Report of people trapped on the 3rd floor in the rear; calls coming in from houses on Ovington Avenue behind the fire building.

@2239: 75-2646: Bn. 40 reports using all hands for a fire on the 2nd floor which auto-exposed to the 3rd floor, two lines in operation, main body of fire knocked down, primary searches are negative, secondaries being conducted, fire is still doubtful.

@2242: Ladder 122 acting Ladder 109 is 10-8.

@2245: Div. 8: one 10-45 code 4, fire is probably will hold.  Secondaries on the fire floor are complete and negative.

Engine 240 relocated to Engine 241.

@2252: Ladder 159 acting Ladder 149 is 10-8.

@2253: Div. 8: fire is under control; 3 additional 10-45s no code.

@2255: Squad 1 is 10-8 from the all hands.

@2302: Rescue 5 is 10-8 and returning to SI.

I've not heard that expression before.  Is it just another way of saying "communicated" or "extended" to someplace else?  Or is there a technical meaning?

Auto-expose means it traveled out the windows of the 2nd floor and in the windows of the 3rd floor; exposure via the exterior.
