75' Tower Ladders

Nice to see that the lettering is FDNY instead of FIRE that has been put on some of the other new units (especially the fire boats).
 
I found the following information in the FDNY Operational Reference July 09

1997 units:    Ladders 138, 124, 21, 46,  Spare

1998 units:    Ladders 23, 50 77, 35, 142, 153

1999 units:    Ladders 15, 31, 146, 162, 41

2000 units:    Ladders 13, 22, 76, 86, 87,159, 157, 135, BOT

Order of replacement at that time was  BOT, 138, 46, 21, 124, 142, 50, 77, 23, 35, 153, 162, 31, 15, 41, 146, 76,`13, 22, 135, 159, 86

First two delivered were BOT and 138.  Looks like they are following the order.

Ladders 21 and 142 are sitting at the dealer in NJ.

Once again, I can only take pictures if I see them on a public road. Would have loved to run on their lot today. Ladder 47 is sitting there in for repairs along with a Marauder II engine. I couldn't see the number on it from the road.
 
These new rigs are so state-of-the art. I was at 234/123 house last week and took a nice look at the 234's Marauder II.  I cannot say how stunned I was. The back seat has all these video panels and that cab is awesome. FDNY rigs are great.

There are certain high incline hills in NYC that the apparatus have to be able to get up. I think they're in the Bronx & upper parts of Manhattan ? Someone else would know better than myself.

You're right, one of the hills that was used for testing years ago was Fort George Hill in Washington Hts. I have a WNYF issue from 1953 where the 20, then brand new ALF tillers were tested to make sure they could "make-the-grade" ;)

Might also be for Staten Island. Todt Hill Rd and Richmond Hill Rd. are not an easy road to get up.
 
I know 23 Truck has some hills to climb in their area. I worked there one night and the rig they had now seemed like it was the little engine that could trying to get up some of those hills.

Todt Hill is just a 6 alarmer waiting to happen. Between the hills and the narrow winding streets with the massive mansions its a wonder it didn't go up years ago.

that describes most of north shore staten island
 
Does anyone know if they actually failed the test? If they did fail what happens with the trucks purchased?
