First we would have to train Perth Amboy on our procedures. That could years and a whole lot of $$$$$

Plus doesn’t Perth Amboy run 2 Engines 1 Truck? What they going to send to Staten Island? 1 engine? Bayonne might be more better sending 2 engines and a truck 😂

Mutual Aid with New Jersey Fire Departments will never happen. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it will take a major event for the citizens of Staten Island to wake up politically and demand adequate fire protection. While we all would agree that Staten Island companies are not the busiest in the City, there are places on the Island where response times are long, coverage is thin and the potential for disaster exists. Maybe someday Staten Island will get the protection it deserves.

this is late, but some might want to read some transmissions

21:58 - SID: Box 4141 out for house fire

21:59 - SID: Box loaded up, multiple calls for fire @ 80 Pitney Ave. & house next door

22:00 - SID: caller hears kids at 110 Pitney Ave. screaming in the rear that they're trapped

22:00 - B23: start out extra E/T (E166/L86), we're still a ways out

22:06: SID: caller now states that the trapped kids are in the house at the rear of 110 Pitney

22:08: B23: corrected address - fire is in 82 Pitney, 84 Pitney & extending to 86 Pitney

22:10: SID: B23, as per D8, do you want to transmit the 2nd alarm

22:10: B23: transmit a 2-2 alarm

22:11: B23: 82 & 84 Pitney Ave., fire on 1st floor & exterior of both houses, semi-attached, 2 story PDs - 2 L/S/O

22:15: B23: MBFKD in 82 Pitney Ave.

22:16: B23: Have E162 respond to exposure 3 on Churchill Ave., rear of 82 & 84 Pitney Ave. - there's fire on the siding of 2 houses on Churchill

22:20: D8: transmit a 3-3 alarm, we fire in exposure 4A (86 Pitney Ave.) in the attic

22:23: SID: 3rd alarm companies are:
E157, 160, 161, 332 Comm.
L85, 79 act. 86
B38, 57 SA

22:30: D8: primary searches of 1st/2nd floors in 82 Pitney are negative

22:30: SID: E279 is now Comm. Engine

22:38: D8: primary searches are negative throughout 82 & 84 Pitney and on 1st/2nd floors of 86 Pitney, fire is still doubtful

22:53: D8: secondary searches are complete and negative all 3 PDs, need 4 add'l Trucks for extensive overhaul (L168 act. L84, L81 act. L82, L83, L80)

23:09: D8: PWH

23:33: D8: UC

The houses on Churchill, exposure 3, were about 50 feet behind 82 and 84 Pitney. The heat from the fire still, however, melted the rear siding and extended a bit into the attics. Any info on a possible cause of the fire ?

Think this is a lot closer to oceanic and I don’t think they went on this either.
I’d say both are equal by jumping on the highway. Oceanic onto the West Shore EXPWY and Richmond onto the Korean War Vet PKWY. Straight shot for both - just don’t think a volunteer company would respond to a fire like this. Maybe I’m wrong and they could or would? I’ve always been curious as to what Richmond engine responds to. I’ve seen them at brush fires assisting and heard them on SI radio at runs here and there mid-island.

Are they allowed to operate inside a structure?

Don't think Perth Amboy can provide much as small as they are. I believe they only have one firehouse now and they're not going to dump the whole City

Out of all the time for it to happen, during a 2nd alarm in QNS and a 2nd and 3rd alarm on SI. Murphy law

They really just need that extra Battalion… and for how many fires they be having in E158 area possible moving 80 truck there as TL79 has a very small area they cover. I don’t think the call volume is on Staten Island for 2 more engines, I really don’t see it while 2 engines can for sure be used in different areas of the city. Just my opinion….

It's not about the number of runs or the numbers of fires. It's about adequate fire protection. SI is heading towards half a million population. SI has had only 3 BCs for 90 years. There are no trucks on the West Shore - all single engines. And there are still parts of SI that can take 5 minutes for a 1st due engine or truck to get to - if they are available.
