I think that Hotel was one of the last LES gas stations around about 20 years ago. Or the old Hong Kong Market which had a ripping 3 alarm about 12 years ago just as they were building the new one around the corner, where members had to bail out windows via PSS.

This hotel at 154 Madison Street was built at the former location of a auto repair shop. There was a Mobil gas station, which shut down around 2012, directly across from the old Hong Kong Supermarket on East Broadway.
