138-10 Farmers Blvd

Heavy fire in a 1 story 50x100 taxpayer with extension to 3 exposures. Exterior operations on the transmission of a 2nd alarm, heavy fire throughout & through the roof, 8 lines stretched & in operation, with 3 tower ladders operating.

All Hands @ 16:15
2nd Alarm @ 16:23
3rd Alarm @ 16:45


@ 17:24 - Car 11 reports conditions remain unchanged, 7 lines stretched & operating, 3 towerladders operating with a 4th towerladder being set up. Partial roof collapse of a rear setback, fire remains DWH.

@ 17:58 - Car 11 reports 7 lines stretched & operating, 4 towerladders operating, major collapse of the rear setback of the main fire building, continuing with exterior operations, fire remains DWH.

@ 18:31 - Car 11 reports the main body of fire has been knocked down. He would like to place this fire PWH. Will eventually go down to 3 engines, 2 towerladders & a BC, at this time Special Call 3 engines & 2 towerladders for relief.

Fire is now U/C.


Initially was a 4, 2, Rescue & Squad. CIDs for the reported address indicated a 1 story 50x100 furniture store with a heavy fire load in the basement & 1st floor.

A few minutes after the 3rd was transmitted...911 comments state MC states whole block is on fire, send more fire trucks.

I saw more pictures on another smugmug site, were there two Rescues assigned??? Saw a pic of R-1's Captain at the fire.

Could you explain why B51 was special called ? I thought for such alarms a chief always is assigned.

I'm not G-man, but let me try and help out here. B51 being special called in this case probadly means that B51 is responding on the orginal box as the first due chief was out of service somewhere else. Ain't that right G-man.

OK could be.
I just thought, when needed, a unit gets assigned. When extra needed above a filled alarm the unit is special called.
