I'm beginning to understand more and more each day that these chiefs DO NOT understand the importance of the continuity of keeping the original FAST truck intact from their arrival until the conclusion of the operation when they are released. I still say it - some day the shit will hit the fan, someone will get hurt, and the job will not come to the defense of the I.C. for bad decision making.

Perhaps with them doing that the original fast truck has already been on scene. And knows what is going on?

Chief already came over to them "When 129 arrives 136 you are going to go in a relieve 154"

He didn't say "We are putting 136 to work for firefighting start out a new fast truck"

Was 129 already 10-84? are they walking up with their Fast Gear as 136 was being put to work


Just some questions. No Monday morning quarterbacking nor do I have a dog in the fight. Just wondering to gain knowledge once OTJ & still OTJ

A FAST Truck (same as a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) - Its SOLE RESPONSIBILITY is the search, protection, and rescue of down, missing, or trapped firefighters on the fireground. [

Upon arrival, the officer reports directly to the Incident Commander, ANNOUNCES THEIR ARRIVAL, constantly monitors fireground communications and an assigned member remains dedicated EXCLUSIVELY to the monitoring of the FAST Radio Board throughout the incident. They can and do also - clear exit windows for egress and/or position portable ladders, BUT - they must maintain team continuity and immediate availability in the event of a MAYDAY.

So, when the FAST truck is put to work and another unit is assigned, who tells them what ladders they threw up, what apparatus they got those ladders from, what if any information the member of the team that was monitoring the FAST radio board collected, and how is that info. able to be passed on? Is there time to do that?

This is why the FAST truck should remain from the time they are assigned until the time they are released. The continuity must be maintained. JMO And when and if the crap hits the fan, you know the first thing the job will do is throw the I.C. under the bus to cover their ass.
