Great Boston "Jakes' doing an unusual operation aiming a ladder pipe into cellar. An interesting tactic. A Ladder Pipe is a large caliber stream that is great for advanced fires in buildings that are beyond saving or uncontrollable fires. Using a Ladder pipe removes the firefighters from the collapse zone and off the 1st floor that may collapse due to an advanced fire in the cellar. Remember a CELLAR is an area where more the 1/2 of the height of the cellar is BELOW the mean/average ground level of the building. If the area is 1/2 or More ABOVE the mean/average ground level of the building it is a BASEMENT. It often makes a difference in the tactics that can be used to fight a fire in cellar or basement fire.
Years ago, FDNY Engine Co. 310 in Brooklynn had a Mack Pumper with a 55 ft. Squirt mounted on the rig. I saw them open all the sidewalk metal cellar access doors and use the Squirt to knock down an advanced cellar fire that had extended to the interconnected storage areas in the cellar of a Taxpayer strip of stores.
