A NEW USE FOR MAILBOXES?

Correct me if i am wrong but use of dry chem in mailboxes was prohibited since 9-11 w/water being the FDNY's primary extinguishing agent for a mailbox Fire as far as i know this remains in effect ...... PS i never put envelopes in a street mailbox i always take them inside a Post Office.

Yes because after 9-11 there was a proliferation of "white powder" (fake anthrax scare) incidents & the Post Office did not want mail circulating w/a white substance on them....it was decided that further damaging some mail w/water was better than circulating powder incidents which still occur from time to time.

You beat me to the punch Chief.  My choice of extinguisher would be CO2 but I do know if the FDNY carries those anymore
