Ongoing since 13:00, a major power outage has completely shut down Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.  It is unknown how many companies are operating.  At 14:00 Atlanta requested 3 Engines and 3 Trucks from outside dept.'s to cover their stations.  They have just now requested an additional 6 Engines and 4 Trucks.

It is amazing to me that the airport doesn't have redundant substation feeds and sufficient emergency generation for operations.  I work for a utility (40 years now) and we even have shopping malls with redundant power feeds.  Some one at the airport needs a kick in the seat.

A FB posting said the power grid that distributed power through the airport caught fire, so even though there is back up there are no lines for it to run across because they are burned.
