Why is it that some accidents are dispatched as an ems 911 box and some are 5-7 signals?

I believe EMS-911 assist boxes are mainly highways but there are some regular boxes also , I think that EMS-911 assist boxes come from the EMS dispatch to the Fire dispatcher to have Fire units respond & 5-7 signal boxes come directly from a caller to dispatcher than to FD

Well it there is a pin how is it dispatched?
if there is a pin the first arriving unit will check it out , call the dispatcher tell then they have a pin and Rescue and Squad will respond

Depending on the information received from the callers the dispatcher will send at least 1 and 1, if information seems to indicate serious accident the dispatchers will add a battalion, rescue and squad. If location is a highway or parkway then 2 and 2 plus battalion and again if calls indicate rescue and squad will be started out. Most times the initial companies can handle the mva without the special units and turn them around.

Being close to both rescue and squad theyare on most of our highway boxes.especially if it sounds like a pin or something crazy. Then when we show up there are multiple esu units there already knowing the better location or are trying to squeeze through.

And everything on the hwy comes through as EMS assist with very little info and usually a wrong location.

Very confusing area, no one really knows where they are when they get in an accident.

Strictly by the book, when announcing boxes we are supposed to start with the borough and then the source. (Brooklyn telephone alarm, Queens Class 3, Bronx ERS box... etc.) Sometimes, when it's a 5-7 signal, the source is left out. It's been that way for years. Only since the inception of EMS/911 link has this been obvious.

Depending on location of incident on Deegan Expwy. you can have all of the following E-81,63,52,43,68 and L-46,39,52,59,49. This covers from approx. Cross Bronx Expwy to Cityline.
