Many of us here remember that very tragic day that the FDNY refers to as "Black Sunday".

The fact that Joey DiBernardo's father, a Retired FDNY Deputy Chief was able to raise $1 Million Dollars in HONOR of his son, goes beyond what anyone would think possible.

As I recall when author Dan P., aka Johnny Gage, and photographer Glenn U., had produced the book "They Saved New York", both had planned to donate (half - ?) their profits from the sales of that book to Four Individual FDNY Charities, with one of them being; "The Joey D Fund" - Joey DiBernardo.

Therefore, it is just my guess that Dan and Glenn played a big part in helping Retired Deputy Chief DiBernardo reach that amount in honoring his son, FDNY Firefighter Joey DiBernardo.

Special THANK YOU to both Dan and Glenn, as well as ALL those who made this possible in remembering FDNY Firefighter Joe DiBernardo.

Brendan Cawley, a New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Firefighter, survived a jump from the top floor of a 4 story apt building on fire on 1/23/2005, known as one of the Black Sunday Fires.
Cawley shared his story with Recruit Class 405 & #DCsBravest reflecting on the incident, his injuries, and recovery.

what niosh failed to mention in their critic was...
the removal of the scaling ladders from all our rigs
the fire escape the members were near had no gooseneck ladder to the roof
the scaling ladder could have been used as a gooseneck ladder to the roof
maybe not practical here in this situation but definitely a valuable ladder in circumstances where
members/civilians trapped on top floor with no acces to the roof
the scaling ladder can then be deployed from the roof hung over the parapet wall

Back during the interim of having no Job issued Personal Ropes & Belts there was for awhile what was referred to as "The Roof Team" a LAD Co. assigned to the Roof position as a team at a Working Fire to monitor the sides of the Fire bldg from the roof for anyone trapped at a window.....I had sent in a report recommending that the previously removed Scaling Ladders be made available to have at least one in place brought up to the roof by the Team...... NO ANSWER.
