I asked a couple of guys about them and here in Connecticut, the Willy D family - my father, my brother, (both on the job in Bridgeport) and myself - out there in a place they call "The Rose of New England" all got our own Bourke Eye Shields.
That started a trend, and soon other guys were getting them.
When I first started in Texas, face shields were exclusively in use. After I had some time on the Department, I convinced the Chief to obtain several pairs of Bourkes and try them out on a "trial" basis. Mixed reaction to them, some members liked them and switched over while some did not. I always liked the Bourkes. Then again, I was always a fan of leather helmets (Cairns New Yorker) as well.
