In a strange set of coincidences with the loss of 2 brave Chicago FF's, today is also the 100 anniversary of Chicago Fire Dept largest loss of life. December 22, 1910 at 4AM a fire was reported in warehouse 7 at the Chicago Stockyards at 44th and Loomis. The fire was the result of an electrical short. Fire was in a block-long 6 story building that was fronted by railroad cars. The only means of attack was throught the loading dock which had a wooden company. at 5:08 AM the building collapsed, with the building coming down on the wooden canopy/loading dock. FM James Horan and 20 members of the department were killed. A total of 50 engines and 7 hook and ladders were used at this fire. In 2004 a momument was deicated to all Chicago FF's killed in the line of duty. Sadly, after today two more names will be added. As a side note William Cosgrove wrote a book on this fire, I believe the title is Chicago's Forgotten Tragedy.
