Cincinnati: Barge fire, shelter-in-place issued 3/29/23

Ongoing right now Cincinnati Fire Department is battling a stubborn barge fire on the Ohio River. The address given for the incident is 5495 River Rd. Crews are having a difficult time fighting the fire and are working defensively using ladder pipes and boats. Due to issues with the closest fire hydrant, two additional engines were requested. A shelter-in-place has been issued due to the possibility of smoke from burning diesel fuel. One foam pumper is on scene and another is being requested. River and rail traffic has been halted. Environmental crimes has been requested for the possibility of diesel fuel in the river. Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport has also been notified due to the smoke possibly affecting flight paths.
