Ladder 83 does not have a Mechanical "Q". Like all the newer rigs(05 or better I believe) it has the Electronic wannabe.Unlike the Mechanical with a break, the Electronic takes time and practice to master in terms of shutting it down when 84 at the box without it winding down on its own. Without it sounding like a retarded alley cat! ;D
I have seen companies that use different Federal Sirens such as the 12v EG and the 66G. They are just as loud IMHO. Certainly blow away any stock siren on any of our rigs! I believe Ladder 169 in Brighton Beach uses an EG thats sounds pretty damn good! 114 also had a Federal that had the Siren Beacon combo but was damaged in an accident with their old rig. Their new rig has the Electronic.

E48 has a nice mechanical siren dedicated to FF Andy Fredricks. Andy ment to have it installed years ago and never got around to it. The siren was rehabed and painted in Rhode Island by the members of 48-56 in time for there 125 ann.
