My wife and I were driving on Pa. Rte. 100 this afternoon, a two lane road, when what do I see but a Crown open cab pumper coming northbound. I haven't seen one of those rigs since Roy and Johnny left Station 51, in repeats anyway. There was only one man on the rig and in the brief moment I had to look I could see no department markings but it did look like it was in showroom condition. Wish I could have made a quick U-turn but didn't have the opportunity. Hopefully I'll see it somewhere again.

Yes memory master, some of us do remember those Crown open cab pumpers. Back in those great TV days when many of us would patiently wait to watch our favorite TV Show with Roy Desoto and Johnny Gage working Squad 51. While Captain Stanley, commander of that famous television firehouse, rode in Engine 51, a Crown open cab pumper as you describe.

I'm not sure if some of the more younger members of this site have any idea of what us old "Baby Boomer Generation" guys might be talking about. So I think this might help.

To our younger friends here, this one's for you. (of course Engine 51, the Crown pumper is on the left in the photo)

My wife and I went on a 6 week cross country road trip last May. We visited 10 MLB parks, Mt Rushmore and we visited LA county station 127 which was used as station 51 in the show. They were very welcoming and I took a lot of pictures. I am on the road right now but when I get home in a couple of weeks I will try to post some. We also visited the hall of flame museum in  phoenix As. It was a great trip.i was able to get the pictures on my tablet so I posted 4 of them.

The "Crown" school bus looks very similar to a "Bluebird" bus. Yes, that's the name of the company..Bluebird.

Great to hear that you are doing well Bill.

In the above photo folks is site member "Parkave32", aka Bill J.

Bill is a good friend to many of us from over the last few years. He lives in the Bronx and retired after working at Hunter College in Manhattan.

What most of us probably didn't know was that he recently got married. So CONGRADULATIONS there my friend. Best wishes for many happy and healthy years together.

And by the way, "Parkave32" wasn't the only one to visit that fire house (Station 127) in LA County. I had visited that firehouse way back in 1984. I have pictures on a disc (from slides). I don't know if any of those pictures might be posted somewhere because I made up one or two disc for other guys and told them to post them anywhere they wanted.
