Two troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police were ambushed outside of their barracks in Blooming Grove, Pike Co, PA on Friday night at shift change.  One trooper was fatally struck, while the second is in serious condition in the local trauma center.

Paramedics and fire personnel attempting to set up a landing zone to evac the wounded came under fire as well and had to relocate the landing zone, also prompting the PSP to shut down a road..

I'd heard about the incident previously but this is the first I heard about the first responders and the LZ coming under fire.  That certainly makes a bad situation significantly worse.  I know according to protocol most EMS and fire departments are supposed to wait until the area secured by law enforcement before entering the site but there are certainly circumstances where that can't be done.  Especially in a rural area where additional police resources will take a significant amount of time to respond first responders have to make a decision based on conditions and normally rather than erring on the side of caution they will try to do everything they can for the injured.  In this case it's tragic that the assailant(s) also attacked the first responders but fortunately they weren't injured.

The audio on the second link is pretty convincing....and if the timelines are right, they were fired upon approximately 45 minutes after the initial attack.....It's being broadcast as we speak on local news that they are blocking off all the roads around the barracks again right now and are setting up for something...They commandeered a church as a staging point.....

In a statement released by PSP they state that EMS was not at any time under fire. EMS personnel relayed by radio that State Troopers had come under fire and two were shot. Apparently due to the chaotic radio traffic, the news media interpreted this transmission as "EMS taking fire." An update on this tragic event, PSP has now identified a suspect and the manhunt is continuing.

here is the audio of the 911 response, this is the Pike Co units, not the PSP. They clearly yell that they are under fire and are moving the landing zone, which was established much later than the atual attack....This is where they were saying they were under attack, but obviously they were not....
