Yesterday, 30 July, FDNY members were a able assist a sailboat that become disabled and lodged under the Roosevelt Island Bridge in Queens. FDNY Marine Companies alongside FDNY Rescue Operations Units were able to remove the occupant safely while operating in a swift current. FDNY members then worked in-conjunction with the Department of Transportation Bridge operators to dislodge the sailboat.

Did he get caught in the southerly current? Could not recover? The West Channel would have been the way to go by the FDR , maybe not Familiar with the waters around here. At least everyone is OK.

This is not the first sailboat that was unable to fix under the Roosevelt Is Bridge. The vessel can always call the bridge operator & see if they are willing to open the span or just use the western channel where there is no navigation problems. Most likely the coast Guard will look into the incident,
