EMS Caught In The Crossfire

I personally know both of these EMS members having worked in the Bronx for 15 years and both are outstanding men.

There are so many outstanding men and women working for FDNY EMS. They love their work, but perhaps not the conditions they must frequently work in. They got into that line of work to help people and make a difference in peoples lives. Hard to stay focused when the city is not as committed to the mission as they are. Hard to fight bitterness and frustration when they city will not put enough people or units on the street or pay them a competitive wage for what and where they work. Other than the pass throughs in the fast lane to FDNY fire, I feel bad for those that wanted to make EMS their sole career. I hope they are successful in extricating themselves from NYC and like NYPD, do their time in the city until they can get a job with better pay, benefits, and staffing in other Metro EMS systems or even out of the area.
