This week's chief has some comments about EMS and Span of Control.
Seems the union has issues with the current Span of Control being too great I can remember times when you had 3 conditions cars south of 125th street if you were lucky.

They are waiting for a response from FEMA on what they feel is proper.

This is the first I heard of this, but would be interesting to see FEMA come back and say to increase the supervison

For those who may not know, FDNY/EMS "Conditions Cars" are EMS supervisors on the street.

Three Conditions Cars in Manhattan, south of 125th St, is much worse than trying to find a needle in a haystack.

What wrong - the city lost a lost suit & decided to tie EMS Station Captains to their desk. So they went & made 4 or 5 Deputy Chiefs in each boro to handle the around the clock supervision. On the later tour (morning hrs) there are only two deputy chiefs on duty over seeing the local Lieut's. This could back fire on FDNY & they might have to put the Captains back out on the street to over see the Lieut's thus reducing the span of control. I do not know if FEMA will look at that.... time will tell.

It will interesting to see how FEMA reacts when they find out the ratio of Lt's. to personnel on units. FDNY Officers are responsible to a degree for the voluntary hospital units as well.

Yet the city has done nothing in regards to this issue.
