EMS TOURS?

When the FDNY/EMS uses the term "increased ambulance tours," what does that mean?  How is an "Ambulance Tour" defined?  Thanks!

Tour = an 8-hour shift when an ambulance is in service.

So they are adding 45 tours which if they all ran 3 tours a day would only be 15 units.

Most unit run tour 2 and 3.  On Tour 1 they go down a lot of units to something like 1/3 of all the units being in service.
