Engine 281

The Centennial Celebration will be held on May 16 at quarters  at 1100 hours

There was a large expansion in 1913 and there will be many centennials this year. Aren't some of the 46 Batt. units involved?

......287/136 & 289/138 this fall.

Engine 277 in May.
We should also remember units that didn't make 100 years because of the powers to be. Engine 278 for example.

Many of the 1913 engine companies were organized on March 20th but their ladder companies did not come on until the fall of 1913. A few neighboring engine companies were Combination Companies (engine, hosewagon & city service ladder) that were disbanded and reorganized as single engines when or shortly after those ladder companies went into service. For example: Combination Engines 240, 242, 247, 248 and 250 were disbanded when L147, L148 and L149 were organized on May 15, 1914.

1913 was an FDNY expansion year.  Looks like the following companies were organized as the department expanded with city growth:

Engines 91,92,93,94,159,281,282,283,284,285,286,287,288,289
Ladders 42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49,131,132,134,135,136,137

Might have missed a unit but congratulations to companies serving 100 years.

How would you go about getting one of the shirts from 289 - 138? I've been able to buy several from the companies in the vicinity of my neighborhood, so I'm just curious.
