Does anyone know what the city does with the old, wornout,or wrecked fire apparatus? Do they have a boneyard where they keep them for parts? Do they sell them? Just curious to know.

I've seen old FDNY rigs at Brookfield truck wreckers in Elmsford, NY.

I believe there are a few yards throughout Queens where unused rigs (both spares and old rigs) are stored.  Retired rigs are stripped down and either sold through used rig companies or scrapped entirely.

Ive seen old rigs at the city auction at the brooklyn navy yard on kent ave by clymer st

The 58th street has the one of the boneyards in the rear...

they switch them 2 spare then yes they sell them or scrap them

Looks like some old Seagrave rearmounts and Mack towers chilling at the 58th street lot there...

Looks like an E-One rescue setting to the left side.  What are all the red box trucks.

probably emergency crew apparutes

I recall seeing on another board that it went to Rescue 4, due to the fact that their truck was major electrical issues.

yup it did go to rescue 4 and rescue 4's rig became a spare

if you look in the area of the e-one rig closer to 55th ave you spot a green truck which is probably a fuel tender then a rearmount aerial  the rig im questioning is the next one its big and very boxy anyone no what that rig is?

I believe that box looking rig is an old decon unit/decon support unit. You can find it here http://fdnytrucks.com/files/html/specialunits/soc.htm (credit to Mr. Martinelli) scrool down to the bottam. It is an old Mack CF converted by the shops.

It also looks like maybe an old decon support unit!  Look at all the old RAC ex army units.

does anyone know the actual address to the one with the huge lot full off rigs

58th street Maspeth.  The maps are on page one.
