Did the FDNY have any CD units? If so what type of vehicles and units did they have? Who manned them?
FDNY received a signifant number of CD apparatus during the 1950s. These were WLF pumpers which could be placed in service staffed with firefighters on detail or OT, or staffed by auxiliary firefighters for supplemental fire duties. The CD apparatus was also used as spare apparatus for engine companies for many years.

From 1952 to 1954, the city purchased 65 (1952-30, 1953-10 and 1954-25) Ward LaFrance Type 85-T 750 gpm w/250 gallon tanks. Civil Defense pumpers.
