FDNY Evolutions

I've seen the term "evolution" used in fire service literature.
Is an evolution the same as an SOP?
What would be an example of an evolution?
Does FDNY publish a "handbook of evolutions"?

Its the same as "SOP" and yes we have many books on these evolutions.  "Evolutions" has been used since we started to formulate writing ops down many many years ago.

Fdny evolutions are step by step instructions. 
Things like raise a portable ladder, hoist a hose to the roof, life saving rope rescue and things like.
