March 22, 1943 - LODD
Fireman Eugene F. Kelly, 50
Engine 240
FDNY. Brooklyn, New York
Fireman Kelly died as a result of injuries sustained March 20th, when Engine 240 collided with a trolley car while responding to an alarm.

The collision of a trolley with Engine 240, at Flatbush Avenue and Parkside Avenue, sideswiped the engine and sent it into a parked car. Six firemen of Engine 240 were thrown off the apparatus. Fireman Eugene Kelly was caught between a southbound trolley car and the engine. He received a severe brain injury and was taken to the hospital unconscious. He died two days later. Seventy passengers of the Flatbush Avenue car were shaken up. Engine 240 was responding to a car fire at Bedford Avenue and Hawthorne Street. Fireman Robert W. Lane of Ladder 105 was detailed to Engine 240 for the night tour. He died of a suspected ruptured ileum and peritonitis.
RIP. Never forget.
