FDNY Line of Duty Death
December 9, 1976 - LODD
Fireman William D. Prange, 30
Ladder 8
FDNY. Tribeca - Manhattan, New York
Firefighter Prange, who was working the 6pm to 9am tour, had responded to three calls within a four hour period before collapsing shortly before 1am on the floor of the firehouse. He and the members of Ladder 8 responded to an oil burner fire, steam leak and to a smokey mattress fire where two mattresses were on fire and took 50 minutes to put out the fire. Firefighter Prange was about to walk to the showers with his crew members when he noticed that the television was on, and was going to turn it off. A short time later, the others returned to the tv room and found him on the floor. He was taken to Cumberland Hospital, where he died.
RIP. Never forget.
