Busy night everywhere.  Here in Southeast Virginia, on the coldest night of the year so far, Our Newport News FD responded to 102 alarms between 11PM Sunday and 11PM Monday, including 2 working fires, 16 vehicle accidents (in the snow), a haz-mat call for a meth lab, etc., etc., etc.  That's about 5 times what goes on in a "normal" 24 hour period.

Thank's Bill

Well Mike, you are very welcome. But if it wasn't for guys like you there wouldn't be such a thing on this site called "FDNY Fire Activity".

And that's also why "YOU" are STILL Our Most Valuable Player. (as posted awhile ago in "News of Members" thread). I'm sure I'm not the only guy that feels that way.

Thanks Bill

Your welcome Mike. And thanks again to all the guys that post these incidents.

I am going to try to add a new feature to the monthly Fire Activity Reports. Very often there are Unusual Incidents that I have NOT listed because they do NOT involve a fire. The members on this site take the time to post it, and of course the members of the FDNY are the one's that work it. In some places, these events would be front page newspaper headlines. They range from a major plane or train crash, to a high angle rescue or person under a train. The FDNY members who respond to these incidents should be given credit for this as well. Sometimes these are very long and difficult operating incidents.

So beginning with the Fire Activity Report next month, I will try to include those incidents as well.

Here is a list of the Unusual Incidents for May, 2016:

  Queens:
5/18 - Confined Space, person pinned under a motor boat
  5/29 - Person under a train

  Manhattan:

  5/10 - Box 0062 - High Angle Rescue
  5/20 - Box 1258 - Scaffolding Incident
5/27 - Box 1084 - Small Plane in the Hudson River

According to the numbers posted here throughout the year 2016, the FDNY handled the following number of incidents. This does NOT include many of the UNUSUAL INCIDENTS such as Haz Mat, Water Rescue, Confined Space or High Angle Rescue, Transit Incidents, Serious Motor Vehicle Accidents etc., in which resulted in the use of an All Hands assignment or above.

In addition to the excellent work done by the members of the FDNY throughout the year, many of these incidents required the services of the FDNY/EMS, the NYPD, Con Edison, NYC Public Works and Sanitation, U.S. Coast Guard, NYC Transit, and behind the scene of EACH and EVERY One of these incidents were the 911 and FDNY Fire Dispatchers.

Sadly on September 27, 2016, the FDNY suffered a LODD at Bronx Second Alarm Box 3732, when an explosion killed Battalion Chief Michael Fahy of Battalion 19.

Also as I reviewed and counted these incidents, several members of this site contributed to make this entire thread of FDNY Fire Activity - 2016 possible. They deserve a Thank You for the job they have done. In many cases the entire rundown and units responding were listed by these individuals. A time consuming job by these familiar individuals:

  "firstdue"
  "FDNYSTATENISLAND"
  "68jk09"
  "firephish"
  "signal 73"
  "mikeindabronx"
  "FDNY793727"
  "UnitWithTheUrgent"

Thank you to all for the work you have done. Without you, these final numbers (Not official) would not be possible. Here is the City Wide final results for the year 2016:

  Total Number of:
    1) 10-75s, 10-76s, 10-77s --- 2,242
    2) Second Alarms --- 128
    3) Third Alarms --- 23
    4) Fourth Alarms --- 12
    5) Fifth Alarms --- 4
    6) Sixth Alarms --- 5
    7) Seventh Alarm --- 1
