I would think they are going to replace the MERV's can't see running both. Or if they have them setup for multiple supine patients, being used for evacuations such as the nursing homes during the hurricane.

Same company as the pictured bus has the contract

I would doubt they are replacing the 2 2004 and 2 2008 ALF/MedicMaster MERV's - they are in excellant shape and relatively low-mileage.  The 1993 International/Excellance is another story though.  The new units could be set up differently as suggested, or it could be yet another case of the Federal Government/Homeland Security saying "here is a big pile of money - do something with it".

That "Mobile Medical Station" was used and operated by firefighting personnel. It could be special called as needed for FD occurrences and would be staffed by a FDNY MD who also was special called. The Merv's were first operated by NYCEMS when they were still under the auspices of the Health & Hospital Corp. which had been the Dept. Of Hospitals (confusing, isn't it?) and of course they are still operated by FDNY EMS to this day. Getting back to that "Mobile Medical Station", I believe that it took the place of old FD ambulances (not EMS) that would respond or be special called to care for Firefighters at jobs. Whew, Can we say this all six times fast??

Thanks for the info and yes that is confusing. Basically, it cared for firefighters with an actual doctor on fire scenes. This preceded anything remotely close to the FDNY EMS of today? Do you know when the last one was taken out of service or is there something similar in use these days??

And it was a 1982 American LaFrance/Saulsbury.  Rescue 2 ran with a very similar rig from 1982 to 1991, when it was rebuilt by Saulsbury with a 1991 Mack chassis after a wreck..  If I'm not mistaken, FDNY had at least one other rig that was very similar and served several purposes during its life span . . . perhaps this was one of them.

1983 ALF CTC/Saulsbury.  The "CTC" chassis was designed for the refuse truckmarket and very few were used for fire apparatus.  FDNY had four of these units - (1) 1982 ALF CTC/Saulsbury for Rescue 2, (2) 1983 ALF CTC/Saulsbury Mobile Medical Stations (these were later converted into the very first "Rehab" units, the predeceser to todays RAC units), and (1) 1983 ALF CTC/Saulsbury for Haz-Mat 1.

(Also, the 1982 rescue was sent to Saulsbury after Rescue 2 received their new 1990 MackMC/Saulsbury to be rechassied due to it just plain having its wheels run off after spending 9 years at Rescue 2.  After the 1990 rig was wrecked in the collision with Ladder 111? in 1994?, the 1991/82 MackMC/Saulsbury was assigned to Rescue 2 until the 1996 HME/Saulsbury's came in.)

The 1983 ALF CTC / Saulsbury that had been Haz-Mat 1 subsequently was used as a spare rescue and then as the collapse rig for Rescue 3. I believe it is still in service today as the Haz Mat Unit in Putnam County, N.Y..
