FDNY Underreporting Arsons to National Database

I suspect it is more of a paper shuffle issue then an intentional under reporting.

I'm not sure exactly how or who in FDNY does their NFRIS but the average dept would have the a command officer start the report before the end of shift but the determining investigative info would not be available until sometime later in the week or even month.

I would be very interested to hear how the process is supposed to work in FNDY if anybody cares to share.

What would be the reasoning for FDNY to under report arson fires?

Because, It's 'Secret', like Every other Got-Dam thing in the B. of I.!  ;)

Company officer or chief does the nyfirs. Phone call to marshal with details about possible arson. However the nyfirs gets closed out and I don't think they go into it and update if there was an arrest.

I can't call a fire arson so I mark it undetermined and notify if I think it might need a follow up. With a basic fire like an auto or rubbish I would close out the nyfirs.

Thanks TB, thats what I thought and about the same as everywhere else.
