New York City Fire Department, Ladder 3, Firefighter

He was the third-generation firefighter. His grandfather, father, three brothers and two nephews were or are firefighters. He took the Boston firefighter's examination but wasn't appointed to the department. In 1996,he became a member of the New York City Department and he lived in Rockaway, New York. He leaves four brothers, Francis X. of Peabody, Mass., Paul H. Jr. of West Roxbury, Mass., William G. of Norwood, Mass., and John J. of West Roxbury, Mass; and a sister, Maureen Gilligan of Norwood, Mass. The memorial Mass was said at the Holy Name Church in West Roxbury, Mass.

gerry was originally assigned to E217. then went through the 3 year rotation.

For years the brothers from 217 sent flowers to Gerry’s grave in West Roxbury (Boston) l always thought was such a class sign of respect especially since he had moved on from 217. They never forgot their brother, much respect!

The original memorial posted for Gerry in this thread was on the Boston Firefighters Union Local 718 site - Boston Jakes remembering an FDNY brother. RIP.
