Here are the latest  pictures of the progress on 343.  The May and June photos are new.  Looks like the entire structure is complete.

It Looks great. Hope they get money for two more.

Don't forget that they are simultaneously building another identical boat the FireFighter II, and have plans for a 63' Safeboat for Marine 6.

Eastern Shipbuilding has COMPLETED "343".  It will be launched on September 11 to commemorate the 8th anniversary of 9/11, and delivered to FDNY after an 8 day trip from Bay County, Florida.  See http://www.wjhg.com/news/headlines/57387752.html

I think that this announcement is premature.  Launching a boat means putting it in the water.   It doesn't mean that its completed.  Based on the pictures that I have seen and info I have, there is still much work that needs to be done on the boat.   All the electronics have to be completed, the interiors etc.

Following is a quote from another source "Actually, the boat is far from being completed.  Just because it?s being launched doesn?t mean it?s completed.  There?s still much fitting out to be done in this will take quite a bit of time.  The hull and propulsion systems are basically complete when a ship is launched much of the other parts of the ship still need to be finished.  I assure you will not be finished and put in service until well after the first of the year.  It certainly is nice however to have it launched on the anniversary of 9/11!"

What you say makes sense.  I live in Newport News, VA, where all of our Navy's aircraft carriers are built, and it takes two or three YEARS after launch to finish building them.  I was simply reporting what I saw in the newspaper article.  Of course, no newspaper EVER got anything wrong, did they ?  ::) ??? ??? ::)

I would like to see the source you cite, though.  Do you have a link?

Here is the September update  on "343"  receiving her final coat of paint.  They are trying to launch her this Friday 9/11/09.

This link is really great.  It contains a video with closeups of the boat.  They are really very close not only to launch but to testing. Looks further along than some of our previous information.

Some additional information from one of the contractors with some nice CAD pictures:

They certainly have done a lot of work very fast in the last couple of weeks!  The last pictures posted on the official website do not show it anywhere near this far along!  It would be nice to see how much of the interior is finished.

Was at a meeting last night and we were informed that the Boat will be put in the water on Friday for some tests. Also it could be in New York by the end of the year.

Yes, the official launch is scheduled for Friday 9/11/09.  FDNY brass is supposed to be on hand.
