Fire Boat Update on 343

I'm giddy like a lsoer looking at those shots. Haha. One little thing I noticed, they painted "Fire" on the side, instead of "FDNY" which seems to be going on everything comin out of the shops nowadays. But man...i've turned a corner on this boat, I thought i'd hate it, but it's growing on me.

Still going to miss the McKean and the Fighter though.

Boy, that sucker kicks up one heck of a wake.  I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it in a rowboat (or any other small boat) when it came by at that speed.

Great find, guitarman. Is it really the biggest fire boat in the world?

Tomorrow afternoon? Anybody have an approximate time for it to be arriving? I am hoping to catch it arriving. Will it be getting an escort from the current fireboats into the harbor?

Just saw the Kevin Kane, followed by the John D. McKean, leading her up river.  You can see a number of FDNY Chiefs on the bow.

5:11 PM  Four boats have water cannons going, one with red, whit and blue at the Statue of Liberty.

Marine 1 has six water cannons going!!

Around 5:30 PM,  "343"  saluted the Statue of Liberty, then we over to pay tribute to the fallen at Ground Zero.

Wow missed it by 1 hour. I was on the bridge coming back from Brooklyn at 3:00 PM. Thanks for all the links.

Here's a great set of photos from a guy who was on the Staten Island Ferry.  Here's what he said on another board:

"I had the opportunity to photograph the Three Forty Three's arrival in NY Harbor yesterday afternoon. I was on the Staten Island Ferry-planned trip-and had about 7 minutes to get the shots. The downside of the event was it was a Photo Op for the 5 O Clock News, so I was shooting into the sun for most. Click to view as a slide show or largest images to really see them blown up. I will put discriptions on them later. The FDNY Boats Firefighter, McKean, Kane, and smaller boat, along with Fireboat Harvey, Jersey City, Perth Amboy NJ and Hudson County NJ boats were on scene for the welcome.":

great pics, and she is very beautiful, i see they went with four shafts on the variable pitched props,  this type has good speed, great power, good stopping distance but my experience as a boat captain is the four shafts are sometimes hard to control especially when trying to pivot or walk a boat in, but all boats are different and none the same. but she looks very capable of handling herself. nice and wide, shouldn't role too much.  In Honolulu our fire boat is based on a cutter style design very narrow since our waters are very rough and good size swells, she needs to cut through the water. most of her duties are offshore rescues and not to much harbor incidents. mahalo
