Probably some companies on Staten Island & Queens and most likely to be a truck company. I know before the 1960's Ladders 82 and 83 had tremendous 1st due response areas. Also before 1960 when the "Big House" in Jamaica was broken up, Ladders 125, and 162 had some large expanses to cover.

Ladder 47 in the Bronx still has a large.
Yes, but there are companies in Staten Island, S.E. Queens nd even TL159 & TL170 in Brooklyn that have more 1st due boxes than L47.

For First Alarm (1st & 2nd Due)........LAD* 126 s is very large.....it was even larger prior to the formation of LAD*133 in 1998.....it is still a large & extremly busy area stretching roughly from Hillside Av on the North to Kennedy Airport on the South & roughly Lefferts Blvd on the West & Merrick Blvd to the East........these are rough boundaries just to give a basic idea to those interested......LAD*133 took some of 126 s area to the West but primarily impacted on the Southern working areas of both LAD*150 & LAD*127.......there is still plenty of activity for all though......as mentioned in 1960 ..299 went from the BIG HOUSE to Utopia Pkwy.. LAD*152 went from ENG*306 to Utopia ......& ENG*275 went from the BIG HOUSE down to Merrick Blvd & 111 Av........298/127/BN50 remained in the old house for about 2 more years before moving to Hillside Av & 153 St..........the old BIG HOUSE on 162 St off Jamaica Av had 2 separate housewatch areas as well as 2 separate kitchens........the bldg is still in used today by Parking Enforcement Agents.

Maybe L 76 in Tottenville (SI) for the largest response area.  They have a response area larger than many battalions.  Not many runs but they are by themselves for south shore boxes until L 84 arrives.

Same for E 151.  E 168 helped out but E 151 and E 164 also have two of the largest response areas.

E164/L84 lost a lot 1st due territory to E167/L87 and E168 took some from both 151 & 164. I know BC23 has got to have the largest chunk of real estate to cover.

The largest first due area was Engine 165 & Lad 85. I know that 165 had over three hundred boxes. The truck has a lot more boxes.

First & second alarm area I would give to E-163. They responded to over 98% of Staten Island before E-168 came in service. The only area they did not respond to was near the VZ bridge because companies came in from Brooklyn.

In Bklyn start looking at E-290 & L-103, but don't forget L-159!

In the Bronx - Before becoming a Squad - Engine 61 had the largest 1st alarm area (1 to 4th due)
Ladder 47 has the largest first alarm area (1 & 2 due) while Ladder 50 has the largest 1st due area.
Smallest is Engine 70 & L-53.

Think the Belt in that area near Flatbush Ave/Floyd Bennet is TL159's first due including the Knapp St area.

It is and to the east Ladder 170 has a huge territory to cover all the way out to Pennsylvania Ave. on the Belt and further east inland

The thing with Queens is the highways.  Those alone add a few "1st due" boxes (and a lot of mileage!) to otherwise sleepier yet more strategically placed companies such as 297/130 and 320/167...

In the Rockaways, Ladder 121 has the largest first alarm area.  They are second due in Far Rockaway with Lad 134 & also 2nd due with Lad 137 all the way up to Beach 169 St. Ladder 121 is also 2nd due in the lower end of Broad Channel. Break off point between Lad 134 & Lad 137 is around Beach 69 St.

From the area of Eng 329's quarters Lad 159 from Bklyn comes in 2nd due toward Brezzy Point.

Now remember that Lad 159 responds first due with Eng 321 & also Eng 323 besides having a large response area with its neighbor Eng 309.

Remember something that we here in the NYC area might not be aware of - there are national standards for fire company coverage. Engine companies should have a first due area of 3/4 miles in each direction, while truck co's areas are doubled to about 1 1/2 miles. But there are also other requirement - the need to put a first alarm assignment on the scene in about 8 minutes.

Also think that some fire stations go back to the days of horses. There are a lot to take into consideration about placing a fire house. Look at Manhattan's East side -
Eng 21 - 40th btw 2 & 3 Aves
Eng 65    43th West of 5 Ave
Eng 8    51st East of 3 Ave
Eng 23  58th West of 7 Ave
Eng 39  67th  West of 3 Ave
Eng 44  75th  East of 3 Ave
Eng 22  85th West of 3 Ave
Eng 53  Third Ave @ 102 St
Eng 91  111th West of 2 Ave

Look the list over - the stations in most places are about 10 blocks apart - specially in the area of Central Park. Where the gap increases is in the northern end, 85 ST to 102 St. But remember that when there was an increase of fires in this area, years ago, Eng 89 & Lad 39 were created in the area of 95 St to help protect the area.

At the lower end of this area Eng 65 & 23 can respond to protect both sides of Manhattan with out too much of a delay, but forget holiday periods.

Its hard getting fire companies to cross Central Park with Manhattan's traffic so in most cases East side companies will cover the first alarm responses on there side of the park. Opposite park companies
will respond either 4th due on the first or on the second alarm.
