Heavy rescue out to bid

Chief, remember the Ahrens-Fox?

Memory Master's comment got me to thinking:  Does anyone know how today's purchasing process differs from that of the 1930's?  I don't think that Ahrens-Fox was ever the low bidder on anything.  You just knew that they were the "Rolls Royce" of fire apparatus, and that if you wanted the best out there, they were the choice.  And FDNY made that choice many times. So what was different?

Yes i forgot the Ahrens Fox....I remember 285 having one w/the front mounted pump until 1958 when they got a Mack also i remember 125 having one ...the grill was massive.....i also left out the 1955 FWDs (Four wheel Drive) that were purchased in '55 & they had wooden aerials after metal aerials had already been introduced & welcomed into the FDNY but Chicago had cancelled an order of them & NYC took them...never understood that deal.

1938 ahreahs-fox beat out mack on a 20 unit pumper order by a mere 5 bucks haaaaaaaaaaaa

Here's one it seems all of us forgot. Late 40's into very early 50's several truck companies had a Pirsch TDA.

Yes maybe 1948s i think ... LADs*4..26 & 110 that i remember also maybe one was handed down to 140.

4 Truck had the 1948 Pirsch, 110 Truck had the 1948 Seagrave. The 1953 Pirsch's were assigned to 26, 31 and 123

which contracts are we talking about and who would get the contracts if these were canceled?

I heard that both KME and Ferrara have Lost the contracts, can anyone confirm this.
Lost which ones? The engines and ladders, rescues or ? It would take something major to have a contract pulled and to have to pulled at about the same time would be almost unheard of. If it did happen it would certainly put Seagrave in a good place. Although I'm not sure where they would go for rescues, E-One? Pierce have never bid on a FDNY contract, Seagrave makes some but was by far the highest bidder in this last round of bidding. It will be interesting to see how things fall out if the contracts were really pulled.
