Greetings and Happy New Year to All.

I have a question for you - 280/132 run out of a house that was built around 1912/1913. There were several built for newly organized companies and for existing companies as well and, I remember reading somewhere, these houses, very distinctive in style, were referred to as "Johnson Houses" because they were built during the tenure of Fire Commissioner Joesph Johnson.

Does anyone have a list of these Johnson Houses?

Thanks, in advance, stay safe and take care

Johnson was FDNY Fire Commissioner 1911-1913.  He directed that firehouses be built with covered or uncovered roof gardens for firefighters to use for exercise.  12 were built with roof gardens during this period and 3 had covered roof gardens (example E 268/L 137).

Johnson was also NYC Transit Commissioner, Comptroller and Public Works Commissioner.

Well this clears up the speculation that the name referenced a certain body part.
