FF Curran, E 26, died from injuries received fighting conflagration on June 15, 1922, in Arverne Far Rockaway.  600-700 buildings destroyed - every building in a 5 block area was destroyed.  Several bungalows were dynamited in an attempt to stop the spread of the fire.  The explosion injured several FFs.  Over 30 FFs were seriously burned or injured.  FF Curren died from his burns June 18.  RIP

  Seven (7) Manhattan engine companies were sent to this fire. As a double company, Engine 26 would be one of the first to go. The other double engines in 1922 were: 5, 7, 16, 33, 76, & 91. 2nd sections of Engines 27, 30, 31, 72 & 93 had been disbanded in 1918 then 27, 30 & 31 got their 2nd sections restored in 1925. Double ladders in 1922 were: 2, 5, 20, 21, 22, & 26. 2nd sections of Ladders: 8, 13, 17, 28 had already been disbanded between 1915 & 1918.
