Happy Juneteenth!

Before it became a national holiday, this day was always a strange one for Houston first-responders. It would be crazy busy and no one would have a clue why.
So it joined the mythology of full moons, payday Friday, and that Third of July that fell mid-week.

And today it's going to be worse. Yesterday at World Headquarters here at 1400 hours it was 96 degrees with a heat index of 120. At dawn this morning it was 81 degrees with 89% relative humidity. That FIFA crowd is in town for a game tomorrow: those Europeans think 85 degrees is the end of the world. HFD EMS is gonna take a whuppin'. I'm sure the troops have the ice chests on all the rigs "locked and loaded"!
