Junkyard Question

I have a kinda "off the wall" question. When an FDNY rig reaches the end of its in-service life, some go into reserve, some get auctioned off, and some go off to a junkyard somewhere. Does anyone know the whereabouts of the junkyard(s) where these old rigs go???
 
I'm sure there's more than one but there is one in Elmsford, NY. Brookfield Resource Management on Lamont and Hayes Streets. I have seen junked rigs at the Elmsford facility. From what I understand, that's the end of the line for them. Also a lot of junked Sanitation trucks end up in Elmsford.

Frank - Do you know any junkyards for end-of-the-line buffs?

Yeah Joe. There's a place in Bayside called Maggie Mays. A few times a year you'll find some end of the line buffs there........lol.

"mack" that fdce54 guy is a lot slicker than I thought he was.

Not only does he know where they junk old fire trucks and garbage trucks. But he knows where they junk old fire buffs too.
I bet that's the same place we heard about where young guys fall asleep on pretty ladies when they try to talk to them.
Or when one of those old buff guys from down south comes in and speaks English, but nobody really knows what he's talking about.

Actually I guess I really do appreciate "fdce54" response about junked FDNY rigs. Because I didn't know that either.

Yeah Willie, I know a lot about old junk. That's about it.
 
Back in the late '70s / early ''80s there was an auction yard in the "Iron Triangle Area" across from the then Shea Stadium (now Citi Field) off Roosevelt Ave that auctioned off all surplus NYC vehicles every Thursday... among other buyers some guys would buy a Diesel Mack Pumper for anywhere between $400.00 & $700.00 then drive or tow it down towards Northern Blvd & cut it up right in the garbage strewn street taking the engine & sometime the tranny & leaving the rest of the carcass alongside of the street (good for Rig lights & grab bars etc to customize your Rig).....after this auction place closed all the surplus NYC vehicles were auctioned off on Wednesdays on the East edge of the BKLYN Navy Yard around the corner from 211/119.... i remember NYPD Plymouth Fury's under 50,000 miles that were bought in the afternoon & that night left minus the engine/tranny on Kent Ave....always made for some good late night Hurst Tool Drill vehicles for us in R*2.
