One of these days the fire officials and  residents of surrounding towns are going to find out they are the auxiliary Lawrence Fire Department. The jakes in Lawrence are busting their butts, no problem with that. Mutual aid is for incidents like the Chelsea and Lynn situations, yes Boston gets mutual aid after a certain alarm response. A 19 mile run, what are you going to do in a NE blizzard. Maybe send the Boston Globe up there to investigate the politics and politicians. This will just get worse, winter is just starting!

Grump, while I agree, I have to say it is better than a few years back. Lawrence is one of the top three poorest communities in the Commonwealth. The guys on the job have to deal with the hand they have been dealt, they are a dedicated bunch. They also give to their neighbors, just in the past week, Haverhill and Methuen received assistance from Lawrence.
As far back as the 1960's (and before) mutual aid came into Lawrence on a 3rd alarm and as often as 10 time annually.
About 15 years ago the then Mayor of Lawrence made a statement that these communities came to Lawrence for the training and experience.  (a regrettable statement that backfired)

No problems with the jakes from Lawrence, close houses, cut manning and these bad asses still get it done. But I still say the politicians are still dirty!
