1) Make it unlawful to use lithium ion batteries for micromobility applications in NYC,
2) Require that within a certain time frame, perhaps 3 to 6 months, the batteries be turned over to the City which would replace the lithium ion batteries with lithium phosphate batteries which are much less susceptible to fires.
3) The lithium phosphate batteries would need to be somewhat larger than the lithium ion batteries because lithium ion batteries do not have the same energy storage capacity that lithium ion batteries have.
4) The program would be temporary and staffed by retired fire fighters and sherrif's officers trained in handling the batteries and having the mechanical skills to remove the lithoium ion batteries and replace them with the lithium phosphate batteries.
5) A portion of the costs of the program would be recoupped by selling the lithium ion batteries removed from the eBikes to companoes like Tesla which would recycle them for use in creating the larger batteries they use for automobiles.

The second and fifth bill signed by Mayor Adams should help and maybe the third if anyone is listening. But the bottom line is prohibit them from any inside building or facility but that’s a dream. Too many of them out there.
