London police officers do not openly carry guns and are not routinely armed. Only specialist armed response units and anti-terrorist officers are allowed to carry loaded firearms.

For this man to have been shot dead, there would have been intelligence that he was either armed and dangerous or was an immediate terrorist threat. Until the investigation is complete we will not know which it is.

Not knowing the full circumstances of the shooting, but 2 offenders were involved I believe.  2 shots have been reported to have been fired by police.  After the shooting, a police officer discovered a bullet lodged in his radio, not having come from police, but the offenders and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Yet, it looks as though Joe Public see this as police brutality and the riot eventually kicked off. Some reports of more disorder occurring at the moment not far from this area, but no confirmation as yet if connected to this or not.

From what was reported of the shooting on Thursday "the perp" was being followed by the Mets Armed Police (CO 19). When they went in for the arrest its reported "the perp" opened fire shooting a Police officer. The perp was the shot and killed despite the efforts of the Police to save his life

Public relations in the Tottenham area between Police & locals are not that great. There was a riot back in the 80's (85/86 i think) same kinda thing large scale disorder and relations haven't improved since.

It should also be siad that the riot last night had notting what so ever to do with a guy being shot by Police. He was shot on Thursday. Alot of the 300 or so rioters are belived to have traveled to Tottenham from surrounding areas in London. Last night riot was just an excuse for people to attack Police officers and to loot retail shops

The Guardian Newspaper are reporting that the ballistic test on the bullet recovered from the radio of the Police Officer confirm the bullet is a police issue bullet

That came out not long after I posted Irish.  Still, you know as well as I do, the police over here do not shoot many and only do so under the very serious threat from offenders.

As you say, the famly have condemned the violence.  Watching it on news at the moment and it's going crazy out there.  Police being stretched by the complete randomness of where the next part is going to kick off.

Its changing by the minute Dexter. Sporadic all over London now by the looks of it and spreading to Birmingham now aswell. The events of Thursday night as we know are still being investigated. This guy was being followed by CO19 so he was no ordinary jo-soap. But as you and i know and ive said already whats happening in London now has nothing got to do with the shooting on Thursday its scumbags with nothing better to do then attack Police Officers and public buildings

Yes these are gangs of youths who are organising themselves through Blackberry messaging, which is a private messaging service. They have nothing to do with the tension in the Tottenham area on Saturday night and have just used this as an excuse to cause trouble. The Prime Minister David Cameron is returning home from his summer vacation, as is the Mayor Boris Johnson. My belief is that there will be curfews imposed and the military will be called in to assist policing the streets.

"The Prime Minister David Cameron is returning home from his summer vacation, as is the Mayor Boris Johnson" - 3 days too late. You have to remember London at the moment Has NO Prime Minster, NO Mayor due to being on Holidays NO Police Commissioner or Depty Commissioner the current Met police Commissioner is an acting one.

12 Police Forces from neighbouring forces in London are sending relief Police Officers in to Help the Met including British Transport Police, City of London, Thames Valley and Kent to name a few. But they WILL NOT deploy the military you can be sure of that

Not good at all irish. Kicking off in Wolverhampton as we type.  Again in Croydon too.  Watching news for most of last night and it's just shocking.  Just degenerates now.

Although, on news from IPCC, man did NOT shoot at police at all.  Does not vindicate it at all, but will add massive fuel to the fire already burning.

Kicked off in my home town last night as well.  Nothing like London or Birmingham, but still not good.  Various chatter around I'm seeing of places where it's going to occur.  Police may well have authorisation for batton rounds and rubber bullets tonight though, which should hopefully help immensely.  Give them the tools and it will stop very quickly.

Caught May's speech this morning and she is living in a complete different world at the moment!!

Seems nowhere in the UK is safe. As for batton rounds & water cannon i cant see them working. They dont work in Northern Ireland. Plus the only place in the UK with Water Cannon is Northern Ireland so it will take a while to get them there.

I think you just have to flood he cities with Police Officers they will bing it under control
