The Louisville Metro fire Department recently acquired a 4 drones to be used for major incidents. It can be equipped with thermal, infrared or visual cameras and has a flight time for approximately 30 minutes. Each shift has a minimum of 2 qualified operators of the drone on duty. It was used twice over the weekend, once for searching the Ohio River for victims of a boating accident overnight and yesterday at a three alarm fire at the historic Whiskey Row buildings on Main Street. Here's a story one of the local television stations did on it: http://www.wdrb.com/story/29496576/louisville-fire-and-rescue-using-drones-to-help-in-fire-fighting-search-missions

That's the only way we'll ever get our own fleet of aircraft.
It's also quite possibly the best way because they can be deployed so early in an incident.
