Manhattan Hurricane incidents

Should they be moved from quarters as they are right on the battery, storm surge might make it impossible to respond anywhere.  And not to mention any of the rockaway companies.

We have plans for moving companies up to other firehouses in the event things get flooded out.

Also heard Swift Water 1 go 10-8 on the Manhattan Freq.  Any idea what this unit will be responding with.

Its kinda like the cold water. Rescue units but they have boats and dedicated to that function

Picked up the following information.  Needs to be confirmed.

Activations:

E 500 @ 15
E 507 @ 53
L 701 @ E 91
D 20 @ D1
SWR 1 @ R1
FC 2 @ 39
MK 2 @ 91

Confirmed..
The Swift water rigs are just some spare engines with a boat strapped to the hose bed from what I was told.

A note from the NWS about high rises:

"MORE SO THAN WITH MOST STORMS...THE WINDS WITH IRENE INCREASE
SHARPLY WITH HEIGHT ABOVE THE SURFACE.  AS IRENE MOVES THROUGH
AREAS WITH HIGH-RISE STRUCTURES...THESE BUILDINGS COULD EXPERIENCE
WINDS SIGNIFICANTLY STRONGER THAN THE SURFACE WINDS.  WINDS AT THE
30-STORY LEVEL WILL LIKELY BE 20 PERCENT HIGHER THAN AT THE
SURFACE...AND WINDS 80-100 STORIES UP COULD BE ABOUT 30 PERCENT
HIGHER THAN AT THE SURFACE."

Ems condition 4 reports that the east river is breached from station 4 down past engine 4

-Holland Tunnel reportedly flooded.

-Storm surge of 4-feet reported at the Battery at high tide this AM.
