"UPDATE: WATER RESCUE — MAYDAY
Londonderry Fire Company
22:49 May 7 County dispatched the River Box 54-9 for a water rescue. Three individuals were reported stranded on the rocks in the Susquehanna River. Boats from 54, 88 and 71 were dispatched. At first the victims were thought to be north of the South Gate bridge to Crane Clean Energy(TMI). After communicating with them it was determined they were south of the South Gate bridge. Boat 88 and Engine 54 had to carry Boat 88 around the fish ladder and launch from the woods on the Island. Boat 88 made their way down through hazardous rapids and rescued the three individuals and went to the Falmouth boat launch. Unfortunately Bainbridge Marine 71-2 became stuck on rocks in heavy rapids and had to be rescued themselves. Chief 71 added numerous other assets on the Lancaster County side to assist. After numerous attempts by inflatables Marine 88 were going to make an attempt to go upstream to try to get to Marine 71-2. In addition Tower 88 and Boat 70(HIA) along with Engine 54 were going to the South Gate bridge to drop Boat 70 down to the water via the Tower to float down stream to try to get to them(this was done once before by 88 and 54 on a previous call). Marine 88 made it up to 71-2 along with RIT boats from 80(Columbia) and 22(Mount Wolf) and freed them from the rocks. Marine 71-2 and the remaining units made it back to the Falmouth boat landing. Amazing work by all parties involved. No injuries were reported by rescue personnel or civilians. Engine 54, Engine 54-1, Marine 54 and DO 54 along with numerous other agencies operated.
In the Central PA Region
Boats are Inflatables.
Marines are hard bottom boats."
